Lent Bible Study

Thanks for your interest in participating in our UMC Monroe Bible Study.  Here's the key information below and elsewhere on the page you'll be able to see relevant materials we'll be using in this study.

All meetings will be held at UMC Monroe on Cutlers Farm Road.  We'll be doing them from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

Dates:

  • On Wednesday, February 26, we will explore the history of Lent. We will review a document that outlines the origins of Lent as believed by many. Additionally, we will examine the significance of the number 40, which appears frequently in both the Old and New Testaments.

  • Wednesday March 5 - NO STUDY as this is Ash Wednesday

  • Wednesday March 12 - A look at Jesus's Temptation in the wilderness within the Gospel according to Matthew [after baptism and before starting his official ministry].   Scripture:  Matthew 4:1-11

  • Wednesday March 19 - A look at Jesus's Temptation in the wilderness within the Gospel according to Luke.   Scripture:  Luke 4:1-13

  • Wednesday March 26 - A look at the abridged reference of Jesus's Temptation in the wilderness within the Gospel according to Mark.   Scripture:  Mark 1:12-13

Bring your own bibles and connect in person to discuss God's word.  Sometimes different translations help us understand the word even better.
